小さなアップルタウンのコープさん The little apple town Gays Mills' co-op

紹介した小さなアップルタウン’ゲイズミルズ’は、パーフェクトリトルオールドアメリカンタウン！この町を含め、この南西部のウィスコン シンは、オーガニックファームを初め食材の宝庫！ザリトルカントリースクールにお越し下さったお客様にも特に町中のコープさんは大人気。みんなここに来る と、自由時間をコープさんのカフェで過ごたり、地元の人みたいにすっと溶け込めちゃうのも魅力的！さて、今回はこのビロクアよりももっと小さな町のコープ さんを尋ねました！Everyone who has come to the Vernon county area loved our co-op. Today we visited the co-op in Gays Mills, it is even smaller than the Viroqua Co-op!
おなじみドライセクションでは量り売り。パッケージの無駄もなく、量も自分で調節できるのが嬉しい！
I love the dry section. We don't need fancy packages and we can buy as much as we need!
それに品数が豊富！こちらはドライハーブや香辛料。もちろん量り売り！
And there are a lot of different kinds of herbs, rice, grains, flours, you name it!
じゃ～ん！最近話題のサンフラワーオイル。こちらは地元の若いファーマー達のプロジェクト。イタリアのオリーブオイルと並びウィスコンシンはサンフラワーオイルで！体にも環境にもいいオイル！

アメリカでは殆どのおうちがペットを飼っていて、ペットももちろん家族の一員。そんなペットたちにも安全なフードを！オーガニックキャットフードドックフード！Most people have pets. And they are a part of their family. Pets also eat healthy!!

小さな町のコープさん。やっぱり地元のオーガニックのものがたくさん置いてあった。アメリカの食生活は幅が広いけど、このエリアはやっぱり同じ志向を持った人が集まってるんだな～！

Gayの華やかなとか楽しげなという語源からこの町の名前が付けられたそうだ。今では他の意味のほうがメジャーになり、？？と首をかしげる訪問者もいるようだが！現に小さい子供がお母さんにこの町って本当にゲイズミルっていうの？と真剣に聞いた！

アップルフェスティバル Apple feativals in Wisconsin and Minnesota!

９月といえば実りの秋！ファーマー達がシーズン中育ててきたお野菜やフルーツの締めくくりの時期でもあります。ここウィスコンシン南西部、そしてミネソタ州はアメリカのリンゴの産地。今年も輝いたリンゴ達が並びました。この写真の中のリンゴはオーガニックアップル！なかなか難しいフルーツのオーガニック栽培。達人たちは今年も見事なリンゴを育ててくれました！Taste of Fall! The month of September is filled with great foods and festivals! Minnesota and Wisconsin grow a lot of Apples. Look at the apples! Aren't they beautiful??!! There are organic! It is really difficult to grow apple or any fruits organically.
人口約600人という小さな町ゲイズミルズ（Gays Mills)。春と夏に行われるアップルフェスティバルにはこの町に５万人ほどの人たちが訪れるという。町には図書館、郵便局、フードコープさん、バー。大型スーパーやチェーン店は一つもない何ともかわいらしい小さな小さな町。This is a little town called Gays Mills. There is a apple festivals twice a year. Only 600 people live here but many people come to the festivals! after being in Gays Mills, I feel like Viroqua is a big city!! (4400 people in Viroqua).　No big super markets or fast foods shops, just have a library, post office, food co-op and of course the local bars! It's a perfect cute little old town!
各アップルオーチャード（リンゴ園）は収穫したリンゴをはじめ、それを使ったリンゴカラメル、アップルパイ、アップルケーキ、アップルピッツァ等等を用意し、リンゴの甘～い香が漂った中、大自然の中のリンゴ園をドライブし、小さな町のフェスティバルを楽しんでいました！People visit the apple orchard and buy apples or taste apple pie, apple pizza, apple cake and so on. We enjoyed the sweet aroma of apples and the beautiful fall views of the orchards!
これはオールドスタイルのアップルサイダーを作るマシーン。昨年から残念なことにとりたてのアップルで作ったアップルサイダーは販売禁止という法律ができてしまい、今年のアップルフェスティバルももちろん販売ができず、、、。低温殺菌をしない物は販売禁止となってしまったのです、、、。食品の衛生も大事だけど、昔からの行事もできなくなってしまうのはとっても残念、、、。This is an old style apple cider press. Unfortunately we can't buy fresh apple cider any more as government made a law that they can't sell apple cider without pasteurizing it.... It is sad that we can't have our fresh old fashion cider,,,.
町中に戻ると、アーティスト達が出している様々なクラフト At the festival, there are many artist selling their art!
思わず甥っ子に買ってしまった！いつ届けられる事やら、、、、。来年の春、、、かな、、、。妹から調度写真が届いた！Oh it's a hand made wooden car! I bought one for my nephew. I am not sure when I can give it to him though,,,, hopefully next spring??!!
あれ、、、こないだまでは立てなかったのに、、、。ちょっと大きいかなと思って買ったウィスコンシンのブランドオシュコシュのオーバーオールも着れるようになったんだって～！パンプキン色のシャツにオーバーオール来てると、ファームボーイみたい！Here he is. My sister just sent the photograph yesterday! He is waring Oshkosh's Coveralls! When I saw him last time in Spring, he couldn't walk or even stand and of course the coveralls were too big for him. You look like a Wisconsin farm boy with the orange shirt and coverall!!

パンプキンといえばもうすぐハロウィーン！ Halloween season will come soon!
子供たちは年に一度やってくる遊園地も楽しんでいます！Kids enjoy the rides that come every spring and fall with the festivals!

こちらは１週間前のミネソタ州の小さな町ラクレッセントのアップルフェスティバル。（夜編）ミュージックバンドにビア！We went to another Apple festival in La crescent, Minnesota. It is also a small town festival once a year!
私たちはバーテンダーのボランティアをしてきました！もちろんお味見しながらね！
We were the bar attendants!! Of course we sampled the beers too!!

メキシカンレストラン Mexican Restaurant Chilito Lindo

ほんと、九月とは思えないほど暖かいので、二人してヨガのトライアルをした後は、久し振りにビロクアの町にあるメキシカン料理のお店Chilito Lindoへ行ってみた！アメリカの南の方や西海岸、東海岸ではメキシコからやってきた人たちもたくさんいるけど、ウィスコンシンの田舎まで来るとなかなか見かけない。そんな中このレストランには本場メキシコからやってきたシェフもいる！アメリカの小さな田舎町の小さなメキシカンワールド！It's been so warm for September. We went to a trial Yoga session then decided to go to our local Mexican Restaurant in ' Chilito Lindo'! The Little Mexico in Viroqua!!
マルガリータもいいけどピナコラーダがお気に入り！アルコール抜きでも作ってくれます！そしてメキシカン料理のお店では当たり前にサルサとコーンチップスが付いてくるのも嬉し！The Margaritas are good here but I also like Pina coladas!! They can make it without alcohol too! And of course salsa and chips come with every thing!
ん～～～～いいお味！Oh it's so good!!!!
さて今回選んだのは？何ともデコレーションがかわいい！！これはいったい何？
この料理はTamalesという料理で中にはコーンミールに左から豚肉のピリ辛煮、ベジタブル、チキンがそれぞれ包まれてそれをトウモロコシの皮でくるんで蒸し焼きにしたもの。ソースがまたピリ辛で良く合う！そしてサイドにはおなじみのライスとビーンズ。メキシコ料理を食べるといつも出会ったころを思い出すな～。日本人の私とアメリカ人のｸﾛｰﾋﾞｽがであったあの地。メキシコ！
平日で人が少なかったせいか、スタッフが全員’ありがとー’って日本語を練習してた！この町でたった一人の日本人の私の為にそんなに練習してくれて！ありがと～！
Tonight, we had Tamales! It is decorated so cute! Corn meal, pork, chili, Vegetables and chicken inside wrapped with a corn leave and steamed! The sauce is great with it too! Of course rice and beans on the side. Mexican foods always reminds us of when we met! We met in Mexico!! When we were leaving, all the staff were practicing 'ARIGATO' which is thank you in Japanese. I am the only Japanese person in this town but thank you for practicing Japanese !!! It's so great!!

秋を迎えたウィスコンシン Fall

ただいま、ウィスコンシンは大豆畑が黄金に輝いています！We have been enjoying the Golden soybeans field in Wisconsin!
いつもより暖かい９月を迎えていますが、紅葉も徐々に。This year is a bit warmer than usual but the color have started already!
変身途中の木々もまた美しい！I like it when there is green and other color at the same time!
来月はハロウィーンだ。うわ！こんなに大きく育ったかぼちゃが！Halloween is already next month! Look! It's a huge squash!
もぎたてコーンも最高でっす！Corn Wisconsin ??Wisconsin!
昨日は町中で新しくできたヨガセンターでのトライアル。なんと’ベリーダンス’に挑戦してきました！ベリーダンスってあのエジプトとかトルコで見る？？！！そうなんです。でもこれがまた、体全体の筋肉を使うよきエクササイズになるんですね～モリモリ食べて、エクササイズして。寒くなってくるから体を鍛えるぞ～～！と、今日も他のクラスに挑戦してみようかな～！

恐ろしい現実ダイオキシン Agent Orange and Dioxin

ドキュメンタリーとして人々に伝えている。
そんな現実を知りながらも農薬にはダイオキシンが使われている世の中。
ごみが増える世の中。いま食べている魚は大丈夫？お肉は？

彼女にはアメリカ人の旦那さんがいらっしゃいました。
彼はベトナム戦争の為にベトナムへ行き、
ベトナム人と同じように大量の枯葉剤を体に浴びていたため
雅子さんに、二人の間には子供は持てないと宣言していたそうです。
その後旦那さんは肝臓がんを患いあっという間になくなってしまった

ご友人にそれは枯葉剤が影響しているのではないかと
ベトナムに行き、地元の人々を取材。
ドキュメンタリー’花はどこへいった’を作成。
日本でもベトちゃんドクちゃんで知られているように
彼女の見たベトナムの現状は想像以上に悲惨なもの。
３０年前は生まれてさえいなかった子供にもまだまだ影響が、、、、。
家族は助け合うしかない、生まれてきた子供はどんな格好でさえわが子と、
お年寄りになっても死ぬまで子供に愛情を注ぐをみる人々。
みなさんも是非一度このドキュメンタリー（ＤＶＤ可能）を御覧になってみてください。

さて、先日ｸﾛｰﾋﾞｽと雅子さんはアメリカのミシガン州の南にある某Ｄ社（ケミカルカンパニー）
周辺を取材に訪れた。
この工場の周りにはおそるべく数値のダイオキシンが発覚。
そうです。あのベトナム戦争の枯葉剤に含まれるダイオキシン。
わかりやすく数字で言うと９０という数字が安全圏。
向上の周りの住宅の庭の土を調べると２５０００以上の所が多く
ある公共の公園ではなんと５０００００という数値が発覚。
ここには川が流れていて、工場から出たダイオキシンは川の水で運ばれ
年間数回起こる洪水によって住宅地の土に溶け込みこのような数値になったとか。
幼児が土遊びをして土を口に入れたら？
そうでなくても空気中から入る埃や土が体内で蓄えられたら、、、。
と恐ろしい事実を目の前にした二人。
周りに散歩している犬達はあらゆるところに腫瘍がみられ、
インタビューをした殆どの人たちには癌やその他原因不明の腫瘍、その他の
病気を抱えていた。
ドクターも政府も様々なものが賄賂で動いている様子だそうで、、、。
実際ＤＯＷはダイオキシンの事実を認めてほんのわずかな処置を行っている。

撮影現場でも実際川の中に流し込んでいる場面が。
現地の人々は自分たちではどうにもしきれないこの状況を
病気と闘いながらどのような思い出暮らしているのでしょうか、、、、。

知れば知るほど怖くなるダイオキシン、、、、。どうにかしなければ、、、。

Masako and Clovis visited the Dow chemical company in Southern Michigan. Way more than safe amounts of Dioxin are polluting the river and flood planes there. '90pt' is the limit that humans can be safe around but many people's yards are around '25000pt' and one of the public park was over a million pt...
Masako and Clovis saw lots of dogs and cats with tumors, many of the people that live on the river have been having hearth problems too... They interviewrd people who live there and heard so many stories about scary things that are really happening to them today and happened in the past...
Dioxin raises the risk of cancer, birth defects and other serious illnesses.
I really hope that the situation changes as soon as possible. And I recommend you watch Masako's documentary ' Agent Orange.

田園ウェディング Another good country wedding in Wisconsin

夏の終わりの９月。時々寒さがやってくるというウィスコンシンの９月。この日はすでに中旬。しかしこの日だけは、誰もが心から喜んだ彼らの晴れ舞台にふさわしい天気となった！ウィスコンシンの素晴らしい田園風景の中で行われたアンナジョーとショーンのウェディング。二人はサーカスカップルでも知られている！The end of summer 'September'. Sometimes we get chilly weather in September. But that day, nobody allowed cold wetty weather to join our friends Anna-Jo and Shawn's wonderful wedding on the beautiful farm in Wisconsin! They are known as a circus couple too.
カントリーミュージシャンたちも気持ちよさそうに二人の為に演奏をしている！Perfect match with the musicians!さて！教会でセレモニーを終えた二人がやってきた！指輪の交換は皆の前で！ということで、登場した二人は皆のアーチを抜けて！After they finished their ceremony at a Church, they walked to the farm together and through under our arch over the music and singing by people who came for them!
感動のこの瞬間を友達や家族に見守られながら！おめでと～～～～！Congratulations guys!!さて次はテントの中に移動して新郎が新婦のもとへと。さすがパフォーマーなショーンはスローモーションでアンナジョーのもとへ！the Gloom is going to get the bride! Was it only me that he was slow motion??!! Of course he didn't forget his performance!!

お料理は旬のお野菜たっぷり！サワドーパンはビロクアの地元のベーカリーを今年オープンしたバージニア作。素材にこだわり自然のイーストにこだわった幻のブレッッド！Everything was fresh from garden!! The bread is of course from Virginia who has a bakery in Viroqua!じゃーん！これはただのコーンではありません！二人がこの日の為に育てたコーン！とかしバターにディップしていただいちゃいます！Special corn that Anna-Jo and Shawn grow by themselves for today!! Dip in a melted Wisconsin butter!ミネソタ州都ウィスコンシンのこの辺りはリンゴの産地！リンゴの季節ですね～Minnesota and Wisconsin grow a lot of Apples!
地元の人が作ったアップルサイダーのお酒。5%位でとっても飲みやすくおいしい！二人の名前も入ったラベルはかわい～～！Apple cider alcohol drink by local company.
飾り付けも一つ一つのテーブルはいろんなファミリーが協力して出来上がりました！これぞコミュニティーの力！Every table made by different family. We have such a great community!さすが身軽な二人はテントの上まですいすいっとウェディングドレス、タキシードのまま登って行っちゃいました！そして二人の愛が描かれた旗が立てられました！Oh~~~, suddenly they just climbed to the top of the tent and put flags! Wow, it is not so easy in wedding dress!!
さて、今度はパフォーマンス！ショーンは東海岸出身の５人兄弟。踊ってくれているのはお兄さんご夫婦。まるでブロードウェーを見ているよう！この他にも家族や友達のパフォーマンスがいっぱい！
Performance time! Shawn is from east coast. He is one of the 5 boys! Los of Family and friends did great shows!! It's like watching Broadway!
お気づきですか？この会場はレッドバーン（家畜小屋）を利用しています！Have you noticed that this place is in a red barn like our logo!!??そうです、私たちのロゴにもあるように！

そしてダンスが続き、、、、、、ふと気がつけばアンナジョーが車いすのお父さんを上手にリードしてダンスしてる！最近発覚した彼女のお父さんの病気、、、。心配だな、、、。なんだか自分のお父さんを思い出した。ウェディングに、２週間間に合わなかったお父さんはきっと空の上から楽しんでいたに違いない。二人がいつまでも幸せでありますように！Anna-Jo and her dad were dancing together. It's so beautiful and I really hope that everything goes well for them. I was just thinking about my own dad...

だんだん人が増えてきました。みんなポエムとペインティングに見とれていきます。Her painting especially with the poems amazes people.



ウィスコンシンは今、まさにソイビーン（大豆）が黄金に輝いていて、まるでこの絵のようです！Now Wisconsin is just like this picture. Golden soybeans !!その中でも私の一番のお気に入りはもちろんこれ！私たちの結婚式の時にウェルカムボードとして書いてくれたこのペインティング。こんなポエムと一緒に！

My favorite one is of course this one!! She gave us for our wedding. It is such a special gift for us and my mom has it in Japan so that she can see us all the time! The poem touches me. Thanks Cedar, I love you!
