蜂の達人 ロビン Bee master Robin

本日も楽しく英語の授業を終え、今日のテーマ’蜂’について学ぶために、地元のビーキーパー、ロビンのお宅へと訪問。ロビンとメリージェーンが住むこの素敵なおうちは、カーペンター、ウッドアーティストでもあるロビンと、お花が大好きなアーミッシュの助産婦でもあるメリージェーンがデコレーションしたそれはそれは素敵なおうち！彼らは水道を引かず、表にわき出る泉からそのまま水をくみ上げているので、水道はない。このお水がこれまた最高！そして、オールドファッションの薪ストーブは今でも使用されています！After the fun morning English lesson, we visited Bee Master Robin!! Robin and Mary-Jane live at such a wonderful house in Newton Valley, near Viroqua. Robin is also a wood artist and Mary-Jane loves flowers so they decorated their house beautifully! They have a spring that they get water from, so they don't have running water in their house. Fresh water every day from Spring, yummy, that's the way!!They also use old fashion wood stove for cooking and heating!! It is neat!!
さて、まずは早速本日作るキャンドルのもとになる蜂が作りだすワックスを見に行くことに！５０度前後になるとこのワックスは溶けだすので、太陽の熱を利用して溶かし、それがぽとぽとと容器に流れ落ちるので、それが固まったところを取り出します！Let's see Bee's wax! We are going to make candles from bee's wax after this tour. Wax melts around 140 F so it goes into a container so that we can collect it easily.

さて、今度はいよいよミツバチたちを見に行きます。通常はミツバチを扱うときは刺されるのを予防するためにマスクやマントをかぶったりしますが、達人のロビンはこんな方法を使います！火をおこすことによって、蜂に刺される可能性が低くなるそうで。その訳を聞くと、、、、、なるほど納得～～！
Ok, now we are going to see BEES! Robin is making a fire. Why?? Smoke makes bee calm and less likely to sting us. Most people ware veil and mask but not robin, who has enough knowledge about bee and understands which energy keeps you from getting stung.
２年から５年卵をうみ続けるという女王蜂の一生について、そして働き蜂の一生について、たくさんたくさん教えてもらいました！女王蜂が生んだ卵、そしてそれが幼虫になった姿、プロポリスやロイヤルゼリーなど、色々なものが見えました！六角形のこの蜂の巣。本当に芸術を感じます！蜂達が見事に作り上げる巣のそれぞれの大きさの違いはなぜなのか、女王蜂と、オス蜂はどうやって巡り合うのか、！！！あまりにも奥が深く、自然界ってすごい！と改めて思いました。そして、知り尽くしているこの達人ロビン。スゴイ！Queen bee will keep laying eggs for 2 to 5 years!!! We learned about their life, got to see the eggs, larva, royal jelly and more! Look at their hexagon art!! There are different sizes of holes for male, female and queen bees. Wow, the system of nature is just amazing!

ほんの１週間で蜂達は違う種類のお花にたかります。彼らはいつの時期にどの花が一番糖分（ネクター）を含んでいるかという事を見つけ出し、仲間にコミュニケーションである’蜂ダンス’で伝えて場所を教えるんですって！１週間では私たちには花の違いがわからなくても蜂達にはわかるんですね～～。
Bees know which flowers have more nectar and they tell other Bees by doing little Bee dances. these dances communicate the information of the direction so that they can find the right flowers easily. They go to different kind of flower in different locations every week almost.
さ～て！最後はいよいよ彼らの集めた大事な大事な蜂蜜を頂いてしまいます！尚美さんおもたそ～～！ハニーたっぷりのトレイを持ってわくわくドキドキ！この後は遠心力を使って蜂蜜を巣から集めます！とれったての蜂蜜。うひょ～～～～～。これぞまさに蜂蜜！言葉が出ないぐらいいい香り！自然の甘さいっぱいです！Ye----------------------------s! Naomi is holding the tray that contains lots of honey!!!! Robin showed us how to get honey from these trays and gave us the fresh fresh honey! Oh it is soooooooooooooooooooo yummy!!!!!!!!! Smells soooooooooooooooo good too!
さて、たくさん蜂について学び、ハニーの味を味わった後、いよいよワックスを使ってのキャンドル作り！Now we are making candles from bees wax that Robin gave us!
