Gyoza with High School students

'Youth Inisitive High School' http://www.yihs.net/

Mama Jane teaches ' food and Nutrition' at local alternative high school 'Youth Inisitive High School' http://www.yihs.net/
They have a lot of events and when we had a horrible flood last summer, they helped farmers, churches and people a lot.
Recently they preformed their play which they had preformed at a state competition for the hight school. It was awsome!

I'll get back to the Gyoza story.
Mama Jane sometimes takes a guest teacher for her cooking class so that students can learn different kinds of cooking.
This time, she took ME-------!
A Japanese meal..,,let me think...
The image of Japanese food is 'SUSHI' here.
There is no Japanese restaurant in this town.
La Crosse which is an hour from Viroqua has a Sushi restaurant which is Asian and Westan mixed suchi restaurant called 'YOKO'.
Bye the way my sister's name is YOKO!
So basically nobody knows what Japanese people normaly eat.
Then Clovis suggested 'GYOZA' which he made with our Japanese friends in Australia.
Gyoza,,,,isn't it Chinese???? I was wondering.
But nowadays most people eat Gyoza in Japan same as RAMEN(chinese noodle but Japanese tast)
It is Japanese!!!!!
Yes it is. Most people eat Gyoza so often!!!!
Let's take his idea ' GYOZA! for the class!!

Let's prepare a recipe??!!
Well my mom almost never uses measuring spoons or scale for her cooking.
Whenever I said 'This is delicious!!' then she said
'I can not make exactly the same tast again so enjoy it this time!'
But somehow her dishes come back to the same tast!
'Mom's magical cooking'
I am her daughter so when I cook Gyoza, I always put my ingredients in randamly.
My recipe,,,,,,??I guess I don't have one,,,,well let's find it by internet!
I found more than just a recipe.
Chinese have been eating Gyoza since 600 BC. Wow
Japanese soldier ate Gyoza when they were in China for the war.
Then when they came home they made Gyoza again. This is the begining of Japanese Gyoza histry.
It is said, that because Japanese used to use lamb for Gyoza we put garlic in it.
Now we use pork but still we use garlic.
Whereas Chinese doesn't use garlic and they eat Gyoza as a staple food so their gyoza chell is thicker than Japanese.

Anyway I made a recipe for the class and students loved GYOZA!!!
Well done everybody!!
