サンフランシスコ観光続編 San Francisco

私のガイドを２週間もしてくれたマキトドちゃん。他にもたくさん連れて行ってくれました。じゃ～ん！ついに渡ったゴールデンゲートブリッジ！日本語では金門橋というらしい！霧のサンフランシスコといわれるほどあり、この辺りはいつも霧につつまれているけど、この日は、橋が全部見えるぐらい霧がはけていた！Maki was my tour guide for 2 weeks! She showed me so many great places around San Francisco!
We drove over the Golden gate Bridge!! Usually it is misty in San Francisco but that day, we could see very clear view of the bridge!

さて、この橋を渡って３０分弱位の所にミュアウッズモニュメントがある。こんなに都会に近いのにここにはレッドウッド（赤杉）が生い茂り、とっても気持ちの良い森林浴ができます。Muir Woods National Monument!

樹齢約８００年前後のレッドウッズが多くみられます。森林伐採が広がる中、こうして保護されて本当によかったよかった！ここは１０番目のナショナルモニュ メントに指定され、２００８年にはそれから１００周年を迎えました。そしてこの土地は初めての個人としての寄付によるもので、ケント夫妻から連邦政府に寄 付されたそうです。往復１時間ぐらいの見学もしくは２キロ位～の少しアップダウンのあるトレイルもあるのでお好きなように。ちなみに今回は少しハイキング もしてきました！Muir Woods was the 10th National Monument designated in the United States of America. Although it was the 10th National Monument, it was the first in three very important ways. It was the first time a private individual William and Elizabeth Kent donated land to the federal government to create a National Monument. It was the first time a National Monument was created in an urban setting, just 12 miles north of San Francisco. カリフォルニアワインといえば？！Napa Valley！
アイリーン曰く、以前は無料でテイスティングの提供がなされたが、やはりこれだけ観光地化しているので有料となり、平均3種類のワインテイスティング$15ほど。ナパではやっぱりこのブドウ畑のドライビングが一番印象的かな～～Irene said they used to do the tasting for free but since it became so popular, they had to start charging for the tastings. (3 kinds of wine for around $15)　I really enjoyed our driving around the grape orchard!!この他にもマキトドちゃんは私の大好きなビクラムヨガにも連れて行ってくれた。滞在中４回もいけてうれしかった～～！Maki also took me to my favorite Yoga 'Bickram'! We don't have Bickram yoga in our small town of Viroqua.... We went 4 times during my stay!!そしてｸﾛｰﾋﾞｽがついにラスベガス近郊のロッククライミングトリップから戻り、４人でダブルデート！最後の日となるので皆で飲茶を食べに行きました！そしてこの晩は日本風焼き肉をマキトドちゃんのお家で！マキトドちゃん、サダッチ、ほんと２週間も色々とお世話になりました！！めっちゃめちゃ楽しかったのと、この年になってこんなに学生時代の友達との時間を楽しめた事は、今後も一生の思い出になります！Finally Clovis came back from his rock climbing trip from Las Vegas. We went for double dating at a dim som restaurant for lunch and at night we had a Japanese style BBQ at Maki's! Thank you so much Maki and IKE, it was such an amazing time and so nice to spend it with one of my best friend from college!!! I will never forget about these precious memory!!
そしてこの翌日、朝５時２０分という早い時間にも関わらず、マキトドちゃんはオークランドの空港まで私たちを送ってくれました。

サンフランシスコのファーマーズマーケットFarmer's Market in San Francisco

サンフランシスコにはさすがにたくさんのファーマーズマーケットがある。中でもAlfieri Farmsという大きなマーケットに行ってみた。ベイブリッジが目の前でロケーションもバッチリ。ファーマーズマーケットといっても屋台で食べ物も売っているのでかって青空レストラン。There are a lot of farmer's markets here in San Fransisco. Today we went to Alferi Farms by the bay bridge to get some food and eat with the wonderful views!!
私たちもまずは腹ごしらえ！ということで、ご近所さんのアイリーンお勧めのポルケッタというイタリアのサンドウィッチをご賞味。、、、ほっぺた落ちます。このお店は朝からマーケットが終わるまで行列を作っているんですって。食べる価値あり！パンもフレッシュでおいし～～～Irene's favorite Italian sandwiches are called 'porketta'. Grilled pork sandwiches!! It is so tasty!!

そろそろ歩いて見て回りましょっか。と、たくさんのお野菜たちはもちろん Let's start looking around ! Lot's of seasonal vegetables,ベイカリーも出展。Bakery,
さすが海に近い！こちらは牡蠣！Oh, Oysters!!途中でレモンの香りのする不思議なフルーツに出くわしたのでパチリ。これは装飾に使うぐらいだそうだけど、ほのかなレモンの香りはなかなかいい感じ！What are these??!! It has nice lemon aroma but it is not for eating.

屋内に入っているお店は毎日営業。ここはきのこの専門店で、きのこを育てるキットが＄２０位で売ってた。Mushroom shop. You can buy a kit and grow your own mushrooms!!
おっと、カリフォルニアでもファームから直送のお野菜ボックス（ＣＳＡ）やってる！でもやっぱりお値段はウィスコンシンよりかなりお高い。仕方ないっか～土地も高いしね～。They also have CSA box here in San Francisco. Oh,,,, it is quite expensive compare to Wisconsin,,, but land is more expensive here.
お？さすがにメキシカンの色が濃いカリフォルニア。ホームメイドトルティーヤを作っている！California has a lot of Mexican culture too. They are making home made tortillas!!お腹一杯だけど、とりあえず味見しておかないと！！We were full, but we had to taste them!!
結局３時間ぐらいかけてじっくり見てしまった。ファーマーズマーケットっていついっても楽しいな～
ついでに、メキシカンの食材等が売っているチェーンのスーパーにも行ってみた。お客さんもほぼスペイン語を話す人達ばかり！It took us almost 3 hours to look around. Farmer's markets are always fun to go to! We also went to a Mexican supermarket. Most of the customers were talking in Spanish!!
あ～これこれ！メキシコでホームステイした時、お孫さんの誕生日会にこういう人形がぶら下がってって、それを棒でバシバシたたくと中からお菓子がでてきたの思い出した！でも棒で人形をばしばしたたくところはちょっと怖かったけど、、、。I remember these!! When I was staying with my Mexican host family in Mexico, they had their grand daughter's birthday. They put this doll up high and the grand daughter hit it with a long bar strongly then lots of candies came out from the doll!! It was bit scary to see a little girl hitting her doll though,,,.
いやはや、これまた充実しました！

サンフランシスコのピアを歩いて！Wolking along the Pier in San Francisco!

サンフランシスコ観光スポットの一つでもあるフィッシャーマンズワーフ！カニの時期に入ってきたとか！We came to Fishermans Wharf! every one is getting ready for Crab season here in San Francisco!
周りには屋台が出ていたりレストランが並んでいたり！魚介の宝庫ですな！！There are lots of seafood shops and restaurants!お隣にはザリトルカントリースクールでも習った’サワドーパンのお店ＢＯＵＤＩＮが。This is a Sourdough bread bakery!BOUDIN.
サワドウパンとクラムチャウダーのコンビネーションがここでは名物になっている。この度はお腹がいっぱいだったのでとりあえずクラムチャウダーのみをご賞味。後ろの丸いサワドーパンの真ん中をくりぬいてその中にクラムチャウダーを入れてもらって食べるのが本当はいいんだけどね～。BOUNDIではクラムチャウダーの他８種類近くのスープのチョイスもあり！http://www.boudinbakery.com/index.cfm　The Clam Chowder in a sourdough bread bowl is very famous from here. We were quite full so we only had clam chowder but usually it comes in a sourdough bread bowl!
窓越しにはサワドウパンの形を作っている所が見える。サンフランシスコはあらゆるところでメキシコやその他ヒスパニック系の人、アジア人を目にする！ウィスコンシント比べるとここは異国だ～。At the bakery you can see the baking process! Most of staff making bread look Mexican or Hispanics, San Francisco is very international! It is very different from Wisconsin! It's almost like a different country!!
キャ~アーリゲーターもサワドウパンになるとなんだかかわいらし～ ？？でも口にくわえてるのはカメ？Alligator?? It looks cute though!　?? but he has a little turtle in his mouth,,,,, he is no longer cute,,,,.
あらら、今度はコアラが！Koala!!

お店グッツ中に売ってる。あれ？フォーティーナイナーズ？？！！（ゴールドラッシュで金を求めてこの地にたどりついた人々で特に１８４９年という年は急激に増えた。サンフランシスコのアメフトのチームの名前はそこからフォーティーナイナーズ。カリフォルニアのナンバープレートにはゴールドステイトって書いてある）They have their own goods to sell at the shop. They have been running this bakery since 1849. 49ers!!
さてその後はピア沿いを歩いてピア３９までやってきました！１００以上いるアシカ達がこんな大きな町の港にたむろしてる。餌がいっぱいあるのかな～。それにしてもぐうたらだ～カモメと一緒にのんびり暮らしてるな～。そこから見える景色は御覧の通り全くの都市なのに！We came to Pier 39. There are so many sea lions!! They look bit lazy though. Do they prefer to live in the City??!!
なぜか写真がたてのまま変わらないのであしからず。
近くの路上ではこんなパフォーマンスをしながらドネーションを集めるミュージシャンも見かけた。楽器は全てバケツやなべなどを利用してるんです！

San Francisco 11/3~11/15

サンフランシスコのチャイナタウン China Town in San Francisco

サ～ンフランシスコのチャイナタウンの飲茶！ってそういえばミスドの宣伝で昔所ジョージさんが歌ってたっけ。ここはまさにそのサンフランシスコのチャイナタウン！China Town in San Francisco!たくさんの中華の食材が並ぶ！There are a lot of shops and restaurants.
これって一体、、、。What's this??!!
月餅とかもいっぱい種類が並ぶ Chinese Sweets too!
ちょっと小さな道に入ったところで、あの中華レストランに行くとくれるフォーチュンクッキーを作っていた！Everybody knows fortune cookies!!
チャイナタウンのお隣にはイタリアタウンが続く。レストランやカフェにはセニョリ～ナ～といいながら呼び込みをする人たちの姿もあってなんだか微笑ましい。マキトドちゃんとお茶をしたカフェではドルチェ（デザート）全てホームメイドで、カップチーノもいける！There is Italy Town next to China town too. You will hear ' Signorina~' We had cappuccino and Teramisu at a cafe. Their deserts are all home made and the cappuccino was so good!
その頃マキトドちゃんの旦那様はチャイナタウンの中にある散髪屋さんでヘアカット。While we were having coffee, Maki's husband had a hair cut in China Town!! We enjoyed our girls time!!
さすがアメリカ最大規模のチャイナタウン。ほんとにたっくさんのお店が並んでいた。観光の人たちも多かったけどサンフランシスコ近辺に住む中国人の人たちもたくさん買い物に来ていたみたい。ちなみにサンフランシスコにはジャパンタウンもあり、日本のものはほとんどそろい、レストランもかなりたくさん。ダイソーなんかもあったりしてまるで日本！this is one of the biggest china towns in the US. There are both tourists and local Chinese people shopping here! Also there is a Japan town. You can get most your typical Japanese stuff here in San Francisco!!

サンフランシスコのケーブルカー San Francisco Cable cars

サンフランシスコダウンタウンではなんといっても乗り物を乗りこなす事も必見！１日中動き回る人には＄１１のワンデーパスがお勧め。その他連続した３日、７日パスというようにお得なチケットがあるので目的に合わせて購入するといい。When you visit San Francisco you might want to get a 1,3 or 7 day pass for the buses, cable cars and trams depending on your plans.

レトロなトラムはいろんな国から運ばれてきたそうで。Trams are from all over the world!じゃ～ん！やっぱりサンフランシスコの坂をこのケーブルカーで！１９０６年のサンフランシスコ大地震後は縮小されて現在は３つの路線を持つサンフランシスコ名物のケーブルカー。http://sfcablecar.com/ Of course we took the cable cars! There are only 3 lines left. 1906 April 18 - San Francisco's Great Earthquake damaged the cable cars, allowing United Railroads (URR) to convert much of the city to streetcar service.
運転手さんがケーブルにうまくひっかけながら止まったりかなりの急な坂を登ったり！The Cable car is pulled along it's hilly track by an underground cable. The cable is gripped with a vise-like mechanism that is operated via the grip lever in the front of the car.どんどん登った先にはこんな地中海風なサンフランシスコの街並みが！We came up to the top of the hill and look! Gorgeous view of San Francisco!!
今度は降りてゆく。正面にはサンフランシスコ湾が！！立ち乗りをしている時は要注意。路駐している車と自分の間はわずか２ｃｍ位になる時もある。これがサンフランシスコの坂か～～～～！感動！
Then we are going down now. Watch out when you stand on the edge. There is only 1 inch between your knee and cars that are parked on the street sometimes!!

牢獄アルカトラズ島 The Rock 'Alcatraz'

今年のシカゴアメリカンギャングスターに続き、訪れたのはサンフランシスコから２.4ｋｍほどボートで渡った所にあるかつてのアルカトラズ連邦刑務所http://www.alcatrazcruises.com/。'Alcatraz Island' is an island located in the San Francisco Bay , 1.5 miles (2.4 km) offshore from San Francisco.
お、近づいてきた！We are nearly there!
アルカトラズ島からのサンフランシスコダウンタウンの景色。なかなかいいものだ！囚人たちはわずかこの２.4ｋｍ離れたここで、いつか脱獄してやるとみなが野心を燃やしていた。しかしながら冬のサンフランシスコベイは風によりかなりの寒さになる事や、カレントが強く、更にはサメもやってくる事から絶対に抜け出せない監獄生活を強いられたのだそうだ。It's great view from Alcatraz!
到着！ネイビーの刑務所として使われた後１９３４年から１９６３年の間連邦刑務所として。その後は維持費が高額だったため閉鎖された。Alcatraz became a federal prison in August 1934. During the 29 years it was in use.
建物の中にはビデオ上映や展示があるところを見学してオーディオガイドイヤフォンを受け取りに行くとその先は日本語でも細かく説明を聞く事ができる。さすがカリフォルニア。日本語ガイドもあるのね！さて、順に見て行くことに。ここはどうやら囚人が最低限の服、靴、シーツ等を受け取るとこらしい。Go through the Exhibition and Video section then the audio guided tour starts. Now we are the place where criminal used to receive their cloth, towel and shoes.
ここはシャワー。Place for shower,
部屋は一人一人わずか1.5ｍｘ2.5ｍ位の部屋にトイレ、そして小さな机が置いてあるだけ。まきとどちゃん、気分はいかがかな Each room has only around 1.5mx2.5m. A toilet bowl and little desk. How do you feel Maki??!!

周りはいつも見張られている。Of course criminal were always watched.

アルカポネを初め矯正不可能とみなされた極悪犯達がこのアルカトラズに送り込まれた。そんな中でスプーンの先を使って部屋から穴を掘り続け、とうとう部屋を脱出した唯一の囚人達がいた。その後はどうなったのかはだれもわからないそうだけど、、、、。アルカトラズからの脱出という映画では脱獄成功で描かれていたけど、、、。The jail held such notable criminals as Al Capone, Robert Franklin Stroud(the birdman of Alcatraz), George 'Machine Gun'Kelly, James 'Whitey' Bulger, and Alvin Karpis(who served more time at Alcatraz than any other inmate). During its 29 years of operation, the penitentiary claimed no prisoners as ever having successfully escaped. 36 prisoners were involved in 14 attempts, two men trying twice; 23 were caught, six were shot and killed during their escape, and three were lost at sea and never found.The most violent occurred on May 2, 1946 when a failed escape attempt by six prisoners led to the so-called Battle of Alcatraz. 暗いけどわかるかな？これが部屋から掘って逃げた穴。いや～実際中を歩いて見るとかなりリアルで怖い。そういえばアルカトラズというユニークな居酒屋が渋谷付近にあったな～。お店に入るや否や手錠をかけられて牢屋（テーブル）へ案内される。http://alcatraz.hy-system.com/　でもそこは世界最狂の医療刑務所って書いてあるからちょっと違うのかな～
