おなじみのビロクアコープさんには地元で採れたオーガニックパンプキンがかわいらしく並んでいます！
ハロウィーンももう少しですね！
It's pumpkin season! The Viroqua Co-op has a lot of local organic pumpkins! Halloween will come soon!

ほんと～に沢山の種類！かぼちゃのお化け作り用、パンプキンパイ用、色も形もほんとかわい～～
ハロウィンの１週間ぐらい前になったらカービングを始めるか！おっそんなこと言っている間にもうそんな時期？！急がねば！！
Wow so many kinds of squash!! We will start curving them about a week before Halloween. ????It's time to do it!! Hurry up!

秋から冬にかけてのアメフトシーズン！スタートしましたよ～試合の合間に私達もお庭でフットボール。そしてＢＢＱ The season for foot ball , BBQ and beer has started this year!! Between the game, we played football with our cheese football!試合開始。中に戻ってスクリーンを囲みながらドリンク片手にみんなそれぞれ自分の世界に入る。こんな季節がまたやってきました！Oh the game has started again. Get your drink!
しかしＢＢＱ，最高でした～～～～！

Empty Bowl 2008 エンプティーボール

昨年に引き続きこの町ビロクアでも今年も’Empty Bowl’http://www.emptybowls.net/が行われた。その名の通り空っぽの器。地元のアーティスト達と地元の人々が絵付けなどをして作った陶器の素敵なスープボール。地元の主婦、レストラン、カフェなどの人々によって提供されたスープをそれに入れてもらう。もちろのこの器はもらえます。ミニマム＄２０からのドネーションによってもらう事が出来る。そしてそのお金は貧しく食べ物にありつけない人々へと送られる。

We painted last summer at Kickapoo Fair!

今回は地元の教会を借りて。This year, it took place at a church in Viroqua.
クロービスはＰＡシステムの設定そして私は、、できることはきっとウォッシング？！かな、、、と洗い場ステーションに入った！We helped little bit for preparing but I guess the only thing I can do is ,,,, washing??!!
会場も少しずつにぎわってきてみんな自分の気に入ったボールを選んでスープもお好みのものを！

地元のバンドも場を盛り上げてくれました。年に一度、人々はドネーションのためそしてこの小さな町一帯になる楽しみの行事の一つとしてもこれからも続けて行けますように！
Local band, nice people. great event in a small town. I hope we can keep doing this for long time!

Back to summer? 夏に戻った秋？

秋も深まったウィスコンシン。この辺りは松の木も多く、紅葉の中にも深いグリーンが混ざってとってもきれい。１０月１１日１２日の週末は気温がなんとこの時期で２４度前後になるとか！！先週はかなり冷え込んで５度前後にまで朝晩下がったこの地域にも再び夏？！がやってくる。ということで、このチャンスを逃すわけにはいかない！と今シーズン最後？になるかもしれないカヌー並びにキャンプへ出かける事に！
It has been a prime autumn here in Wisconsin. Pine trees are nice and deep green, mixed with a lot of yellow maple trees! This weekend (Oct 11th , 12th) it became around 80 F (around 24C) !! We can't miss this opportunity, so we decided to go for camping and canoeing!!やっぱりみんな同じことを考えている人が多く、このKickapooエリアは、乗馬、キャンプ、カヌー、フィッシング、ハンティングでにぎわった。といっ ても、１つのキャンプサイトには１グループという暗黙の了解のこの土地では、プライベート充実のキャンプができるのがまたまた凄い。
み～つけた！！私達のキャンプサイトここで決定！タカ、アイコ、イヨ、トモミ、覚えてるかな～？ハイキングの途中で見かけたキャンプサイト（ハイキング始まってすぐのところ）。サンセットにも間に合って、満足満足！
Yes, everybody in Wisconsin thought the same thing. Many people went for Camping, Horseback riding, Canoeing, fishing and hunting around the Kickapoo River. But here there is plenty of nature for every one so we can still have a nice and private campsite way out in nature!
Taka, Aiko, Iyo and Tomomi, do you remember here? We saw this campsite during our hiking just near the start point. We arrived in time for sunset! Oh it was just beautiful!
車でのアクセス可能なキャンプサイトは既に満員！！急遽すべて荷物を１００ｍほど運びました！！クロービス、、、、家を求めて旅してるみたいだよ、、、、。
All of the car access campsite were full so we had to carry our stuff in. It was around 100m which is not too bad. Clovis,,,, are you looking for a home???
いやはややっぱり直火のバーベキューですね～～～！！

すっかり夏に舞い戻り！クーラーボックスにはドリンク、アイス、ランチもつめて、今日は４時間コースのカヌーに挑戦！
It looks just like summer. We put drinks, ice and lunch in a cooler and started our 4 hour canoe trip!
すっかり秋らしい景色のカヌーコース。 Great view from the canoe with beach, bluff and colorful trees.
鳥達が舞う空、川で魚を捕らえる姿、そして、カワウソ？らしき動物も顔を出していました。冬になるまであと一歩。まだまだ大自然を満喫しています！
Birds were flying in the big blue sky and hunting fish. An otter (?he looks like it?) came out to say hello! Winter is coming very soon but we are still able to enjoy our out doors and nature!!

The Autumn Camping 2! 秋のキャンピングその２

昨日に引き続き、ボートトリップがかなり気に入ってしまった私達は、朝食もボートの上で！という事で一致団結。朝はちょっと寒かったけど、昨日温かかったせいか、朝もやがかかってカラフルな色がとっても幻想的に見えました！
さてさて朝食はみんなコーヒーにはこだわりがあるので、地元から持ってきたキカプーコーヒーをボートの上で沸かしました！ここでお勧めグッツはこれ。といっても写真ではやかんで見えないけど、、、。
We loved the boat trip at Mirror Lake, so we decided to have breakfast on the boat too! It was a bit cold this morning. There was a nice mist and the colours where even better! We made coffee!
ミニガス缶の上に手のひらで握れるぐらいの小さなコンロの先をつけることができ、荷物を以下に少なく持っていくかがキーとなる旅にはもってこい！ちなみに私達はオーストラリアで数年前約A$70で購入以来ずっと愛用しています。
This is a great tool for backpacking. The top of the stove is smaller than your palm so it's easy to carry!

途中途中にはリス達の姿と動物のおうちもたくさん見られました。 There are a lot of squirrels and animal houses!!
何回か川もわたったね～～～
We crossed the Big Carp River several times.

じゃーーん！ようやくスペリオル湖までやってきました！海のようです！ちょうど西に面していたのでこれはサンセットは見逃せない！！
Finally we came to Lake Superior!!!! It looks like ocean! We saw a beautiful sunset again!!
とそんなとき、鳥たちがグループになって大きな鳥を描くように移動していました！
Look!! Birds were making a big V shape together and flying wildly!!

バックパックキャンピングの場合はお水の持ち運びは困難。なので、川の水をろ過して使います！何とも美味しいお水をともみは毎日作ってくれました！！こんなに自然のお水っておいしいの～～～！！！！！という感じです！
When we do backpacking, it is hard to bring water so we filter water from the lake! The water from lake is just delicious!!!!!
９月の下旬とは思えない暖かさの中でクロービスは思わずスペリオル湖で泳いでいました！！
It was after the middle of September but Clovis was swimming!!!

The Autumn Camping! １秋のキャンプその１

今回は少し早目の３泊４日の紅葉キャンプ。（９月２０日～９月２３日）
ウィスコンシンの中でもカナダの国境に近い北部へと車を走らせ、五大湖の中の一つ、スペリオル湖などをめぐります！幸い天候も９月の終わりとは思えないぐらい暖かくなりました！１日目はスペリオル湖から２時間ほど南のところでキャンプをし,２ｋｍほどのお散歩道は川沿いを歩き、たくさんの滝と、ほのかに色が変わり始めた木々を周りに癒されました！ここは、ニューヨークからノースダコタまで続く約4600マイル（７３６０km)もあるバックパッキングトレイルの一部にもなっているんです！http://www.northcountrytrail.org/
We went for 3 night 4 days of Colour camping in Northern Wisconsin!(Sep 20 - Sep 23)
The weather was extremely warm as September! We camped around 2 hours south from Lake Superior for the first day. There is a part of north country trail which starts from NY and ends in North Dakota. (about 4600 miles) We hiked just little part of it (1.7miles) today. We walked along the river and saw a couple of water falls. The leaves have just started turning into red and yellow!!
とはいえ夕方は少しずつ寒くなってきたので早速火を焚いて！寒そうには見えますが、夜は寝袋が暑いぐらいでした！ラッキー！！In evening, it's still kind of cold but we built fire so no problem!! You might see us look bit cold but in fact, we almost didn't need our sleeping bag. Lucky us!
さて、二日目からはバックパックをしょって途中キャビン（山小屋）に泊まりつつの20マイルハイキングの旅へ！まだまだ紅葉は始まりだと思っていたら、、、。
on the second day, we started backpacking around 20 miles total!! We didn't expected so much colour but,,,,
じゃじゃ～～ん！！赤、黄色、オレンジ、そして緑が混じってとってもいい感じ～～～！！
It was just gorgeous!!
今回は川に沿ってのコースだったので、落ち葉が水にすかっているところなんかもまたまたいい感じ～
The leaves that fell on the ground especially with a bit of water, it looks so nice!
１０キロぐらいのハイキングを経て今晩お泊まりのお宿へ到着！中にはウッドストーブもあって快適！
そして山小屋についてきたフィッシュボートに早速のってこのミラーレイクにてサンセットを楽しみました！いろんな鳥の声も聞こえ、自然に浸っていました！
After 6 miles hiking, we arrived at the cabin! It has a wood stove inside! We took a boat trip　at Mirror Lake for Sunset! Lots of birds were singing and we enjoyed it all very much! その後はキャンプファイヤーをするための木を切って
After that, we cut some woods for fire.
今日も暖かくぐっすり眠れました！It was very comfortable and warm so we slept well!

さて、３週間このウィスコンシンでオーガニックファームステイをしていたタカ君、あいこちゃん、いよちゃんもいよいよウィスコンシンとお別れのときがやってきた。それぞれの家族とお別れ。少しさみしい、、、。
Taka, Aiko and Iyo who stayed 3 weeks with Wisconsin farmers. Now it is time to say good bye.
でもみんないい顔してるね！！３週間、大自然の中で、ファーマーとともにウィスコンシンを満足してもらえたかな？！またいつでも待ってるよ～～～

Taka, do you remember we bought a cheese American foot ball? we had fun with it during our camping!!

あいこちゃんは、１９歳のお誕生日を滞在中に迎えたね！おめでとう！これからの活躍遠くから見守ってるよ！

Yarn Making! 羊の毛で毛糸作り

ウィスコンシンは冬が長い。寒さが半端ではないのでウール素材の服は必須！そこで今回はデンマーク出身のアンマリーと一緒にウールの毛糸作りに挑戦！アンマリーのおうちはミニファームを持っていて、ドンキー、羊、鶏、犬達がいる。今日はこのファーム羊の毛を使っての手作り毛糸。毛が黄色っぽく見えるのは羊の油。お肌にとっても良いナチュラルオイルです！
それでは始めましょう！まずは手で毛を伸ばしていきます。
Winter in Wisconsin is quite long. It is necessary to ware wool sweater here! So today, we try to make yarn at Anne-Marie's! They have donkeys, Sheep, chicken and dogs. We are going to use the wool from her sheep! The reason the colour is a bit yellow, is it contain sheep's oil which is very good for our skin!! It's natural oil!
OK, Let's start! First step, we stretch the wool out.
そして更に手回しする機械にかけてさらに伸ばしていきます。 Put the wool on the machine and stretch it more!
金髪のローングヘア~~!!でも、、、アンマリー、、、。もともと金髪のロングヘアーだけど、、、。お茶目！！

さていよいよスピンさせて毛糸の形にしていきます！できるかな～～～結構コツがいるのねこれ、、、。
あしでマシーンを回して手で形を整えて。う、、、手と足を一緒に違う事をさせようと思うとうまくうごかな～～い！！
It's time to spin it and shape the wool into a yarn!! It is quite difficult until you get used to moving your hand and foot at the same time.

Organic Farm Stay オーガニックファームステイ

今回あいこちゃんといよちゃんはこのウィスコンシンのオーガニック農業が盛んな地域で、野菜ファームにステイをしました。ステイ先はブログにもちょくちょく出てきているジリアン、アダム、ジェーンの営む私達のＣＳＡ農家でもあるスモールファミリーＣＳＡ！彼らのファームは丘のてっぺんにあるので、農作業中も遠くのほうまで眺めが素敵！それに、夜は満面の星空！夏は日が暮れるまで（サマータイムを使用しているので時には９時半ぐらいにもなる）ファームに出て作業をしている事もある。
Aiko & Iyo stayed at Small family CSA. (Organic Vegetable farm) The family members where a young couple Jillian and Adam and Jillian's Mom Jane! Their farm is on a ridge so nothing obstructs their view! It is absolutely beautiful! Plus millions of stars in the sky at night! They work until it gets dark in the fields during the Summer. (sometimes around 9:30 pm!!)
とっても大変なファームのお仕事ですが、この若い２０代、３０代カップルとお母さん。ファーム作業をしている姿はまさにかっこい～～！ジーパン姿にアイポットをポケットに。音楽を聴きながら。あいこちゃんといよちゃんも、仲間入り。そして彼女達もやはり私と同じく、ファーマーたちをかっこいいと思ったということでした！そんな彼女達もとっても素敵！
今回はＣＳＡメンバー達をファームによんでファームツアーと交流会！上の写真は彼らが挑戦する良質の土を作りだすコンポースト（堆肥）のさらなる開拓。彼 らいわく、木の根っこはどの植物よりも奥深い土の中に達し、大きな体を支えるために根っこへの大地からミネラルや栄養素の吸収率が高いに違いないと考え、 堆肥作りには木の根っこ等もまぜて見ようというわけでした。こうしていろんな事に挑戦しているファーマー達。がんばって安全な食を提供し続けてほしいで す！
Farming is not that easy but if you see these people farming, you will be so jealous of them. They love farming and enjoying it from inside. They wear Jeans, keep their ipod in their pocket and hang out with their Vegetables. This time, Aiko & Iyo joined them and shared the moment!! They said farming is so cool and farmers are amazing! Good job Aiko and Iyo!! That I really wanted you to feel!!
They had a farm tour and party with CSA members the other day. In the photo that you see above, they are trying to make good soil with wood chips from trees. Trees pull up all the old deep nutrients through their roots cause they run deeper than any other plants. trees also have to hold up their huge sizes. trees also pull up lots of mineral in them. So they mixed the wood chips into compost pile. It always amazes me that organic farmers always try so many different ways for farming and working with nature!!
おなじみ、アダム作のチキンムービングキャッスル！とりの小屋ごと動かすことにより肥料となる糞を後で運ばなくてもすむというすぐれもの！ You might have seen this before, it's Adam's homemade moving chicken castle!! They don't have to move the manure!
あいこちゃんもいよちゃんもすっかりベジタブルファーマー！毎週土曜日に開かれるここビロクアのファーマーズマーケットにも出店。周りにはアーミッシュ達もバギーで運んできた手作りのバスケットや手作りジャム、ケーキなどを売っている。また、自家製のメープルシロップ、蜂蜜、そして今の時期はリンゴのシーズンなのでしぼりたてアップルジュースなども出ている！二人とも、すっかりウィスコンシン人だね！
Aiko and Iyo look like local farmers!! Every Saturday we have a farmer's market in Viroqua. This is such a special farmer's market. You will see even Amish. They come here by their buggy and sell their homemade baskets, quilts, vegetables and so on! (May through October) Lots of organic farmer's and local artists as well!
