五大湖周辺紅葉の旅 その３ ハイキング Hiking around lake Superior!

さて、今日はハイキングを楽しもうと湖の周りの紅葉が見渡せる展望へと登る事に。以外にアップが急だな～。でもほんとこのきらきらゴールドの道。すごい！Let's take a hike! There is a look out on the top of this hill. but It is quite steep!!
ま、ま、ま、まさかおばあちゃん一緒にくる？Margaret, are you really coming??
到着！！！Here we are!!!
女性チームで写真をとっていると？？え？？まさかおばあちゃん！！！８７歳にしてこの坂を登りきってきた！昨日８時間のドライブしてきたばかりなのに。We were taking some photos and hearing some voice. ??? Margaret??!! I thought you are 87 years old and we were in a car for 8 hours yesterday. なにはともあれ記念撮影せねば！Wow you made it! we should take a photo together!!! I hope I am like her when I am 87.
階段もこんな可愛く！そして歩いているうちに何羽かライチョウに出くわした。ぶるぶるぶる～～～～っと本当に雷鳥って感じ！日本で長野当たりの山奥にツアーでハイキングコースに添乗に行った時、いつも探してみたけどやっぱり周りに人が多すぎて見れなかった。ついにこの目で見る事ができた！イーグルも何羽かみたな～。写真はとっても追いつかなかったけど。Those are cute stairs! We saw a couple of grouses and eagles. But they where too fast for me to get a photo.
スペリオル湖へ戻ってランチタイム！Let's have lunch at the picnic area by Lake Superior!!
さて、もうひと運動！最近ストレッチに励むｸﾛｰﾋﾞｽ Clovis does his stretching everyday recently, only this time the tree joined him.
おりゃ～～～～たくさん食べたら力がみなぎってきた！グググググ～～～～～
we had so many yummy snacks with us! I kept eating them and getting power. so much power I could split a rock!

あれ？橋かけちゃった？そんなわけはなく、この写真の真ん中にかかっているのは洪水か何かで押し流されてたまたま引っかかっているだけの木。この峡谷は氷河が溶けだして一気に増えた水によって作られたそうだ。昔は２００メートルも湖の位置が高かったらしい。この辺り一面水の中だったんだね～～～。
Look at the tree!!! It's not me!! Water carried it and it just got stuck.This gorge was made by Gracia water when it melted. The water level used to be 600 ft higher than now.
心配していた天気もこんなに晴れ間が広がった！We had such great weather, even we were nervous before we left.
川の流れも気持ちがいい～！そうだ、そろそろ魚釣りの時間じゃないかな？？！！夕暮れ時がいいらしい！The sounds of the river water is great! I think it's fishing time!!
早速ガソリンスタンドでフィッシングライセンスをゲット！ここはお隣の州ミネソタ州で私たちはウィスコンシンレジデンスなので、少々割高。３日間で２５ドル。We got fishing license at the gas station. $25 for 3 days as we are not Minnesota residents.
宿に戻ってすぐ目の前の湖にカヌーを浮かべ魚釣り！！夕暮れ時のカヌー。優雅だな～
かなり寒くなったので宿に戻る事に。すると、、、、。水草とばかり思っていたのに、魚が釣れた！！トラウトのようだけど！！！写真は撮ったけどジョージのカメラだったので、また改めて。正直人生で一人で釣ったのは初めて！めっちゃくちゃうれしかった！Let's get the canoes on the lake in front of the cabin! So nice and quiet!! But it is getting very cold so we decided to go back. At the last minutes finally I caught a fish!!!!! It's was the first time in my life!!!!! We took a photo but it was not with my camera. ....
さて、今夜の当番はシダローズとｷｰフ！じゃ～～ん！ローストチキン！Tonight chefs are Cedarose and Kieff ! Roasted Chicken and gravy sauce!!グレービーソースのプロマーガレットの指導を受けつつ Margaret is pro for that! It is so nice to learn how to do it Grandma's way!!
そしてこれはワイルドライス！ミネソタ、ウィスコンシン州の北の方の湖でワイルドに育つ。手摘みのものはカヌーで移動しながら摘むので更に高級。Cedarose found wild rice on the way to here. Wow it's very exciting!
じゃ～～ん！かなりおいしくって、、、、。また食べすぎちゃいました。この後はゲームをしたりしてまったり過ごしました。
It was just delicious. Thank you so much Cedar and Kieff!!　

五大湖紅葉の旅 その２ キャビン the Cabin

昨日は暗くて見えなかったけど、これが私たちの宿！This is the cabin we stayed in!
ここからは湖へのアクセスがある！（ちなみにこの湖はスペリオル湖ではない。）The lake is just a couple of steps! (It's not lake superior though)
じゃーん！なんとロフトにはジャグジー付き！There is a jacuzzi on the loft!
カントリーハウスらしい飾りもかわいい！It's a Country house!!
リビング、ダイニング、キッチンが一つになって高い天井なので広々！この他、３ベットルームがある。The living, dining and kitchen is all in one. It's nice and open! There are 3 bed rooms down stairs.

２日目の朝ご飯の当番は私たち。目玉焼きにカリカリベーコン、そしてシナモンレーズンパンはすでにおうちで焼いてきたのでトーストして。たっぷりウィスコンシンのバターをぬって。アメリカ人ってフライドエッグにはかなりこだわりがあり、一人一人にどんな焼き方か必ず聞く。サニーサイドアップ片面焼き、オーバーイージー両面を軽く焼く、黄身が固まるまで焼いてほしい時はハードにしてほしいと細かく説明を入れる。この間の冬、オーストラリア人がお客さんの宿で働いていた時は、ＯＺ達は全然気にもせず、とにかく一番簡単なのでいいよとか、中には質問自体理解していない人たちもいた。アメリカ人も食に結構こだわるところあるんや～。と改めて思った。2nd day , it was our turn to make a breakfast! Fried eggs, bacon and cinnamon raisin bread that I already baked at home. Americans are picky for fried eggs. Over easy, sunny side up, hard , sometimes people explain more how he/she wants to have his/her eggs. I remember Aussies don't care at all for how their fried eggs are. We worked at hotel that has mainly Australian clients in Japan and we would asked them how they wanted their eggs, but some people even don't understand what we are talking about. Most of them said whatever is easiest for you mate. さて腹ごしらえしたらハイキングに出かけるか！We had plenty of food. Let's go for hiking!!!

五大湖紅葉の旅 その１ Lake Superior color Tour Part1

最近急激に寒くなったウィスコンシン。１０月８日この日もちょっと雨模様。この先のお天気を心配しながらもカヌー３台、カヤック１台をトレーラーに積み、更に４日分の食料、その他７人＋一匹各々の持ち物を詰め込んで。It has been cooler weather for a couple of weeks here in Wisconsin. So we are headed for a color tour at Lake Superior. We packed our staff, including 3 canoes and 1 kayak on the trailer. then all 7 people and the dog piled in the van.チャーリーも寒いのかな～。今回はチャーリーも一緒！Oh Charley, are you cold too?!
今回は、五大湖の中でも最大のスペリオル湖、ミネソタ州の北の方へと。ここからは約８時間のドライビング。its about 8 hour driving from Viroqua.
途中でひとまずランチタイム。何やらノルウェーレストランらしく、パイはホームメードらしい。 We stopped for lunch at a Norwegian Restaurant. They have so many kinds of pies.
両端は、パイのメニュー。なんていっぱい！！Look at the menu!! Those pies are all home made.
サーモンが巻かれているのはラフサＬｅｆｓｅ）というノルウェーの食べ物。ジャガイモで作った生地をうす～～～く伸ばして焼いたクレープのようなもの。タルタルソースと一緒に！ソースを塗ってくるくる巻いて甘いクレープのように食べる食べ方もあるんだって。Salmon wrap with LEFSE! Extra thin Potato crepe!
お待ちかねのパイ。で、で、で、でかい！It's huge!! It's almost the same size as my face!!
お店にはノルウェーの雑貨等も置いている。ウィスコンシンには五大湖を使ってヨーロッパからやってきた人たち、特にノルウェーからの移民が多いんですね～。They sell Norwegian goods too! Wisconsin has many people that came from Norway. They came to the east coast and followed the water way to the midwest!
じゃ～ん！スペリオル湖到着！まるで海のように広がる大きな湖です！Finally we arrived at lake Superior!!! It looks like an ocean!
黄色が映えるバ～チ（樺）！Birch trees are so beautiful!
夕暮れ時の美しい一時。あ、二年前に登った木だ！また登ってみるか！Oh, it is the tree we climbed 2 years ago. Let's climb it again!!
青春！The spring of life! (It is fall though)

今回の旅は、毎日違う人が当番でお料理することになった。第一日目は、ジェーンの手作りピッツァ！ガーデンからとれたバジルで作ったジェノベーゼソースベースにとれたてトマト、ジェーンがブッチャーしたチキンにオーガニックバレーのチーズ。生地はもちろん栄養満点ホールグレインを使ったもの。さすがダイエティシャンのジェーン。アメリカンピッツァというとなんだかファーストフードのイメージが強いけど、大きな間違いでした！This trip, we had different people cook each day. Today was Jane's Homemade garden pizza! Genovese sauce(Basil pesto), fresh tomatoes, chicken that was butchered by Jane and Organic valley cheese! She made the crust from scratch with whole grain flour. Jane is a dietitian. American Pizza is not only from fast food shops!!!
そしてこの日はジョージの誕生日だったのでジェーンはスペシャル手作りアップルパイを用意していた！It's George's Birthday so Jane made a special apple pie !その後はプレゼントを広げ、みんな暖炉の周りでまったりモード！After that George was opening his presents and everyone was relaxed around the wood stove!
このソファー、おっきーな～特にチャーリーと私には！！It's a huge sofa especially for charley and me!

カントリーディスコ 'the Country Discoteca'

先日若手ファーマー達のシーズン締めくくりパーティーが行われました！何ともカントリーサイドらしいパーティー！レッドバーン（赤色した家畜小屋）の中では卓球台やヘイ（干し草）がおかれ、ダンスフロアーもあって、パーティー会場へと早変わり。
Young farmers invited us for their party! The party took place in a red barn!! There are hey for bench and table tennis table , and dance floor. The read barn turned into Discoteca!馬小屋で生まれた赤ちゃんとかよくおとぎ話で聞くけど、本当にありえそうなのがこのウィスコンシン。現にｸﾛｰﾋﾞｽは両親のファームハウスにて生まれたし、アーミッシュ達は病院で産むことはほとんどないし！
I have heard about stories that somebody was born in a barn but here it might happen for real!
お料理も持ち寄りパーティーで皆とってもおいしい！デザートも盛りだくさんで選ぶのに大変。
The food was really awesome! Of course there were many kinds of dessert as well!
マディソンからバンドを呼んで。They had a band from Madison.
気がつけば人がいっぱい。アメリカの田舎のディスコッテッカ。いい味でてるね～！！

日曜日のいいにおい！Smells Good!

今日は日曜日。朝からぷ～んとなんだかいいにおい！と思ったら、ｸﾛｰﾋﾞｽがパンケーキ（ホットケーキ）を作ってくれていた！ちなみに毎日の朝ご飯はｸﾛｰﾋﾞｽの当番。Sunday morning. Something smells so good. I went down stair and saw Clovis was making pancakes!!! How nice!!! Breakfast is his everyday gig.

最後にウィスコンシンのオーガニックバターを載せる。ｸﾛｰﾋﾞｽめっちゃ真剣。パンケーキは人生の中で数万個作ったというｸﾛｰﾋﾞｽにはやはりこだわりがあった。混ぜ方、分量ははからず感覚で。作っている間にすでにできたケーキが覚めないように温めたオーブンの中に保管。ソフトで空気の入り具合が程よくって。なかなかやるや～～～ん！His face was totally serious for putting some Wisconsin Organic butter on it. He has made millions of pancake in his life so he is quite picky for pancakes.
地元のメープルシロップをた～っぷり贅沢にかけて！　う～～～～～～～～んこれはおいしい！このメープルシロップも、しっかりと煮詰まった非常に濃いメープルシロップ。
ちなみにいつもの朝の定番メニューは、トーストにｸﾛｰﾋﾞｽはマーマレードとチーズを載せて。スウェーデンに行った時に皆がこうやって食べているのみてからはまってるんだって。でも意外とおいしい！私はハニーかジャム。そしてコーヒーとスムージー。ウィスコンシンはベリーがたくさん取れるので、その日の気分で好きなベリーをヨーグルト、バナナなどと混ぜて！With the plenty of local maple syrup is so special. It's so appreciable! Our breakfast is usually toast (Clovis have with butter,marmalade and cheese and I have with butter and honey or jam), Smoothie with berries, banana and yogurt!
パン作りは私の当番。サワドーブレッドに最近はまってます！ドライイーストを使わず、空気中からイーストを集めて作るパン。至って簡単で、小麦粉と水をビンに入れて３日もすれば集まってるはず！でも御覧の通り、ぷく～っと気持ちよく膨らんでくれる！手を加えない自然そのもののイーストなので、小麦粉の分解もしっかりしてくれて体にいい！それに、味わいも深い。ザリトルカントリースクールのクッキングの先生アンマリー曰く、こういう自然分解プロセスをしっかりしたものを食べることで、アレルギーもなくなり、消化がよくなり、健康を保てるんだって！年を追うごとに難しくなる消化システム。今からできる事ははじめよ～っと！Bread baking is my gig. Recently I became a big fan of sourdough bread. Instead of using dry yeast, we correct natural yeast from the air. Put some flour and water in a jar and wate for 3 days! It's just simple process. But look at the photo! It rises so well and easy! One of our cooking teacher said that it breaks wheat so well and it become very easy to digest. It takes your allergy away and keeps you healthy! As we get order it get more difficult to digest. I love healthy food and it is not only for my health but also I enjoy cooking, growing good foods!!
噛めば噛むほど味わい深いサワドーブレッド！売っているサワドーブレッドはちょっと酸味がききすぎるので苦手だったけど、これはいける！
ウィスコンシンはすっかりベーキングの季節になりました！
It's baking season! Oh, I feel like it's already winter here in Wisconsin!

オリンピック2016 Olympic 2016！

２０１６年のオリンピック会場の候補に挙がっていた祖国日本も、ご近所さんのシカゴ、そして遠くはマドリッドもおしくも選ばれなかったけど、ブラジルのリオが選ばれた。私のブラジル人のイメージはとっても◎！以前オーストラリアのブリスベンで語学学校で働いていた時に、たくさんのブラジル人の生徒さん達と出会った。彼らはスゴイパワー。場を盛り上げてくれる達人。というか、根っから血がさわぐって感じかな～。生徒としては夜騒ぎすぎて遅刻してくる人も多かったけど、行事ごとになると先頭切ってやってくれるし。だからオリンピックの開催地としては、良かったかも！リオ。まだ見ぬ地。行ってみたいな～。It's
Rio!! Well it wasn't neither our Tokyo nor neighbor Chicago nor Madrid. Personally I like Brazilian. I met a lot of Brazilian in Brisbane Australia while I was working for one of a language school. They are so optimistic, fun and wonderful people. They love party thought many of them came to school late in the morning,,,,. They entertain both themselves and others. I think they will do a great job in 2016! I hope I can visit some day!!!
