Visit to Japan! いよいよ日本へ！

2月21日はいよいよ日本へ出発！
久しぶりの日本、楽しみ～～～！
ノースウェスト航空で地元のラクロス空港を2月21日朝11時に飛んで、
お隣のミネアポリス経由で成田に到着したのは日付変更線を
通るので次の日2月22日の午後4時。
Feb 22nd, I flew from La Crosse 11:00 stoped at St Paul (MN)and
finally arrived in Narita Air Port 16:00 on the 23rd!

早速母と近所のスーパーへお買いもの。久しぶりの日本のスーパー、
すっかり興奮気味。
さすが魚セクションがかなり大きい！
I went for grocery shopping with my mom.
Of course they have huge selection of fish!!
I'm so excited!!

母、真智子虫の手作り料理で迎えられました！
大好きなお刺身に、サバの塩焼き（数週間前から予約してました）、
セリと牛肉の炒め物になめことお豆腐のお味噌汁と日本米！！
幸せ～～～～～～
My mom Machiko prepare for dinner
Sashimi,grilled mackerel,which I asked Machiko a couple weeks ago, fried beef and Japanese parsley, Miso Soup with Nameko mashroom and Tofu and Japanese rice!!
So happy!!!!!

テレビを見ていたら、こんなものが！！巨大なマグロを笹の葉でつつみ、塩で周りを固めて焼いたもの！
うわ～～～日本だ！！！！
We were watching TV and look!!!! Huge TUNA covered by bamboo leaves and lots of salt and put in the　oven! I relly feel like I'am in Japan!!

さて、次の日は早速親友のももと新宿へ。カナダに留学していたという人達と日本に住んでいるというカナダ人の人たちと、居酒屋に行った。カナダ人のマークがオーガナイズしてくれて、そしてあとから来たスコット。じゃｙじゃ～～ん！！やっぱりカナダ人。アイスホッケーの道具はいつも持ってるの？！
My best friend Momoko took me to Shinjyuku for mini party with people who used live or study in Canada and also Canadian. Mark from Canada organized this mini party and Scott who is also from Canada, LOOK he carries hockey stick everywhere even middle of TOKYO??!!

しかしこの日は風が強いため電車がストップし、新宿まで通常1時間半のところ、4時間半かかって到着。
いつも以上に人が多く、人のあまりいないあのウィスコンシンとのギャップが、、、。
そんな中でも日本の駅員さん達は丁寧に接しているところを見ると、日本ってすてき～～～と思います。
だって、風はこの人たちが悪いわけじゃないのに、必死に誤ってるし、どうしたら目的地へ着けるかなんて、丁寧に次から次へと人々に教えてあげて、、、、。
久しぶりの居酒屋。生中で乾杯です！
It was very windy and some of the train lines stopped. Usually it takes 1.5 hours but today it was 4.5 hours!!!!!So many people stacked in a station so I saw more people than usual. Can you imagine? I came from country side in Wisconsin and now I'm in the center of Tokyo........huge gap........ I also realized that Japanese customer service is amazing. The staff from JR did a great job for the　situation. Momoko and me were talking all the way to Shinjyuku so we didn't feel so long anyway!

日本に来る前にはクロービスの家族がお見送りディナーに連れて行ってくれて
ここでもカンパーイ！！というかこのマルガリータ、半端な大きさではありませんでした！！
Grande（大きいサイズ）を選んだら私たちの顔ぐらい大きいものが来ました！
Clovis's family took me to Mexican Restaurant before I left.
Kampa~~i with huge grass of Margarita!! It is almost same size as our face!!!
This is real GRANDE!!


さて、まだまだ到着してばっかりなので、今後楽しみです！
とはいえ今回はザリトルカントリースクールの出張できましたので
これからお仕事もがんばっていかねばと思っているところです！
ちなみに、この後、38度の熱が出て、、、、、。今病み上がりです。
早く直さねば、、、、。
でももう大分元気になりましたので、日本にいる間になるべくたくさんの
方々にお会いしたいと思っています！！

ウィスコンシンでボディーボード？Boogie Board in Wisconsin

私達は、オーストラリアのブリスベンに住んでいました。
私はスキューバダイビングが大好きで、クロービスはサーフィンが好きです。
ちなみにオーストラリアのエクスマウス(ニンガルーリーフ）で
ダイブマスターのトレーニングを2002年にしておりましたので、
エクスマウスに関してはかなり得意です！
今日はオーストラリアを思い出しながらボディーボードに挑戦しました！！
しかもウィスコンシンで！？？？？？
Keiko and Clovis used to live in Australia. (Brisbane area)
We loved the ocean a lot! I (Keiko) love Scuba Diving
and Clovis loves serfing. I even took my dive master course
in Exmouth, Australia. It's just amazing!!
Today Clovis tried boogie boarding in Wisconsin!!!???

ウィスコンシンには海はありませんが、多くの河川、湖があります。
五大湖のミシガン湖は、フレッシュウォーターサーフィンのメッカだそうです。
Wisconsin does not have an ocean but there are lots of lakes and rivers including the Misssissippi. The great lakes is the most popular place for fresh water surfing in the world!

このところウィスコンシンは雪がたくさんふって前日は、
普段より一段と雪がたくさん振り、一晩で20センチほど積もった後、
今日もまだ降り続きます。今日はウィスコンシンのＤＥＬＬＳ
というところまで行きました。
ここでは氷河が作り出したユニークな地形を海、そして地上を走る
ボート'ダックツアー’で夏の間にぎわいます。

It has been snowing for long time in Wisconsin.
The day before we left, it snowed 6 inches and today
it's still snowing. We went to the Dells in Wisconsin
which is famous for Duck Tour in Summer. Usually it takes
1.5 hours from here but it took us 3 hours
because of the snow,,,,, but every thing looks beautiful in the snow!
If you drive here in summer, you will see cranberry field
but today it was all cover by snow.

普段は1時間半位で到着なのに今日は3時間もかかりました、、、、、。
真っ白の田園風景を見ながらの長いドライブになりました。
普段ならこの地域の特産のクランベリー畑が見えるのですが、
それも雪で覆われて真っ白です。そしてついに到着！
ウィスコンシンデルズにあるインドアウォーターパーク！！
というわけで、冬でも常夏が味わえるウォーターパークへ
バレンタインデーのイベントとして行ってきました！
ウォーターパークはホテルにもなっていて、宿泊でも日帰りでもＯＫ。
今日は久しぶりのお休みということで1泊で楽しんできました！
We finally arrived at the usa's biggest indoor Waterpark. It is also a Hotel resort.
Today is valentin day so we stayed over night!

ウォータースライダー以外にもホットタブもあり、バーもあるので、
中には、ビールを飲みながらゆっくりお湯につかってくつろいでいる人もいました！！
It has also hot tub and bar some people are having beer in the hot tub!

さて恒例のチョコレート。チョコレートたっぷりの
バレンタイン特別ブラウニーを焼きました！
日本以外では男性が女性にお花やプレゼンをを渡すそうで。
神戸のモロゾフや森永製菓などのチョコレート会社から始まった
チョコレートを女の子が男の子にあげるという日本の
バレンタインデーの習慣が1950年代から始まったというこの文化！！
でもやっぱり日本人。一応イベントには参加しないと！！
ハッピーバレンタイン！！
Japanese Valentin is bit different.
Girls give chocolate to boys and it is the only special day all year
that girls can express their love of their special boy.
So I followed Japanese way!!
Happy Valentin !!

Green Building グリーン ビルディング

今日はとっても素敵なおうちに訪問です。
お友達のロードさんは、この何年も
このグリーンビルディングに手掛けています。
まずはおなじみのソーラーシステム。
A friend of ours Roald has been producing Green Buildings!
Here is a Solar system and green built house behind!


そして中を見ると、、、、
いやはやなんとニートなアートな自然がいっぱいです。
ロードさんいわく、木が育つときに、いびつな形をした
木などを取り除くことによって周りの木に
栄養分や太陽がよりメインの部分に確実にいきわたり
良い木ができ、しかも自然界の生物は人間よりもより
安定性を自分で探し出すという事で、写真のように、自然の木が
より安定感を探し求めて形を成していったそうです。
自然界って人口では追いつくことのできない不思議な力が
あるんですね～～～。
それに、トリミングした木だからと言っても、質は良質なんだそうで。
それにスチールよりも丈夫とか！！
そして、建物を建てる上でもエコに優しいとはなんとすぐれもの！
それに、この素材となる木はあちらこちらにあるそうで。

Wow this is neat and very artistic and full of nature!!
Roald said that when trees grow, it's better cut the crooked ones and use there bends and y's for construction. he says that it's stronger than steal and is a great use for these young crooked trees that would go to waste. it also cleans out all the crooked trees so that your valuable straight trees can get more sunshine and nutrition. this process of using crooked lumber is the ultimate in sustainable tree cutting and green buliding!

さて、そこをまたまた進むと、
今度は、窓が一面太陽に向かったグリーンハウス。
冬でも太陽の熱で暖かくなるので、中で植物を栽培できます！
しかも太陽熱のみで！
Here is a straw bail green house!!

そしてとうとう彼らの住む家へ到着！
わ～ロマンチック～～～～～
ウッドストーブとソーラーシステムでおうちの中も
ぬっくぬく！！
Finally we arrived in their house.
Wow,,,,,,so romantic!!

そしてお友達のベンが狩りで射止めた鹿肉の煮込み、
彼らの畑で採れたスクウォッシュのスープと
アメリカンクッキーをディナーに頂きました！
ロードさんの奥さんはオーガニックファームで
有機野菜を栽培も栽培しています。
家の中には、たくさんの食材がビンに入って置いてありましたが
これも見るだけで楽し～～～！！
We had a great dinner Venison which was hunted by Ben,
squash soup and American cookies!!
The jars are also cute!!

というわけで、あまりに感動したので、ザリトルカントリースクールでも
この素敵なおうちの見学を取り入れようと思います！

CSA地域で支える農業

テリーは私達が住んでいるここハーモニーバレーという
オーガニック野菜ファームで事務をしている。
このファームは「地域で支える農業」という生産者が、
自分たちの食糧生産に積極的にかかわり、
生産者を支援するという日本の’提携’と
いうシステムから広まったＣＳＡ
ファームのシーズン中は毎週箱に旬のとれたて野菜をお届け！
天候などによる不作においては消費者が支える。
（Community Supported Agriculture）をやっています。
Our room mate works for ' Harmoney Valle' Organic
Vegetable farm.　They are one of the CSA farms.

おいしい野菜をいっぱい生産していますが、
中でも私の一番のお気に入りは’ごぼう’
オーガニックの土で育てられたごぼうは最高です！
なんだか一段とあのごぼうのセンシティブな香りが
プ～ンと匂ってきます。
フライ、汁物、混ぜご飯、キンピラ、、、、
そして食物繊維もたっぷり！
日本のものが少ないこの町でごぼうにありつけるとは
思っていませんでした！
ごぼうにはこんな効果もあるそうで！
便秘・がん予防 動脈硬化予防 胃けいれん
せきやたん 口内炎 虫刺されや湿疹 あせも
They produce such great vegetables!!
My favorit vegetable from their farm is ' Burdock'.
I heard that American don't eat Burdock so much.
Deep fry Burdock(like Tempra), Soup, stirfry,,,,
Japanese use Burdock a lot for our cooking!
Burdock(Gobo)
has been cultivated in Japan since the 10th century,
burdock has been valued in the orient as a nutritious food, high in fiber, potassium, calcium, and trance minerals. Traditional medicine values it as a blood purifier and an aid in arthritis and skin conditions!
Put some chopped burdock in a small cotton bag into some water. Warm up until 42C(108F)then sork your wound for a while!
It has amazing effect;
Protect from constipation, cancer, ateriosclerosis, stomach cramps, coughing,phlegm, ossa, eczema, insect bite, heat rush,

フラクトオリゴ糖は善玉菌であるビフィズス菌には作用しますが、
悪玉菌であるウェルシュ菌には作用しない性質があるため
整腸作用を補助する働きがあり便秘やダイエットに効果があるだけでなく、
その延長としてフラクトオリゴ糖は脂質を改善する働きをし動脈硬化、

そうです、８０%のアメリカ人がこの日ばかりは
アメフトファンもそうでない人もこの試合を見るそうです。
ニューイングランドのPatriots とニューヨークGiants
最後の最後残り１分ちょっとでジャイアンツが逆転で優勝！
いや～あまりルールのわからない私でも興奮したゲームでした！
Feb 3rd NYG won!
Most of American people watch the super ball!
No matter if people are big fan of football or not.
New England VS New York Giants!
NYG came from behind and beat the undefeated New England team!!
I honestly don't know about the rules but
it was an exciting game!

とはいえ、アメフトのおうちでのスポーツ観戦のハイライトと言えば、
お友達とご飯を一緒に食べながら飲みながらそして、
スーパーボールの際のＣＭは格別。
何せ８０％のアメリカ国民がテレビを見ているというこの時の宣伝費は
なんとミリオンダラー単位。数億円？しかも１秒に！！！
コカコーラにペプシ、そしてトヨタのコマーシャルがとっても
多くって印象的。世界のトヨタですね！
The highlite for me was dinner with friends and TV Commercials.
The commercials fees are incredibly expensive, like 2 million dollars a second!!
Cocacola, Pepsi and TOYOTA and so on.

今回訪れたお友達の家では、自分で狩った鹿をディスプレイする何とも素敵なデコレーション。ニ～ト！！
そしておつまみにはシカ肉のサラミ、、この剥製を目の前に、、、。
でもおいしかったけどね！！
Our friends' house is neat!Those deer were hunted by him!

But it was yummy-----

Organic Pizza オーガニックピザ

今日は久しぶりにパンを焼こうと。
というのも、一番近いお店が車で２０分の私は
最近買い物に行けず、、、、。
とうとう朝ごはんのパンのストックが切れてしまった
というのもありで、、、。
なにはともあれ、最近ずっとパソコンと
向かい合っていた私にとっては息抜きに！！
おっと、、、そうこうしていると夕食の時間？！
あ、、、、、ピザにしちゃえ！！
ということで、生地の一部をピザへと変更！
この町のコープでは、粉、米、シリアル、ナッツ類その他
あらゆるものが量り売りでオーガニック製品も多い。
ん～～見てるだけでも楽しい！
It's time to bake some bread !
The nearest shop from here is 20min away by car,,,
I have been working on my computer all day.
I'll escape and go take a break and bake some bread.
Oops it is already dinner time,,,
??!! So I decided to use some of my bread's dough for a pizza!!
The coop in Viroqua has a lots of choices of dry goods; flour, rice, cereals,nuts, and other stuff. It is fun to see them!

今日のパン生地の粉ももちろんオーガニックフラワー！
トッピングは、カプシカン（ピーマンのでっかいバージョン）
オニオン、オリーブ、そしてオーガニックバレーの
ブレックファストソーセージ、オーガニックピザソース。
チーズはモッツァレッラとチェダーを使って。
すべてオーガニックのものを使用しました！
でもオーガニックの野菜はほんと、味が濃いんです！
なのでなるべく買うようにしています。
もちろん無駄のないように隅から隅まで使いますよ！
I used Organic flour,Capsicum, Onion, Olives, organic Valley breakfast sausage,
pizza sauce, Mozzarella and chedder cheese!
Organic Vegetables are delicious really tast like vegetable should.

じゃーん！出来上がり！

二人ともペロッと食べてしまいました！
It took us only a couple of minits to eat it all up!

残りのパンというかはじめはメインだった、、、
この通り朝食用の食パンに！
The rest of the dough ,,,,it was spposed to be a main but
anyway, it became loaves!

オーガニックチョコレートテイスティングOrganic Chocolate Tasting

さて、今日はオーガニックのチョコレートのサンプルを
クロービスがゲットしてきたので
早速ルームメートと3人でお試し！
Clovis got a couple of organic chocolate samples!

生のカカオを砕いてペースト状にしてアルコール分のないカカオリカーにし、その他の材料を合わせるという特徴をもったこのチョコレート。生のカカオを使うことでマグネシウムが豊富で老化防止に効果が！
砂糖の代わりにAgaveの蜜を使っている。
ちなみにAgaveとはあのテキーラを作りだす！チョコレートとはメキシコ原産の食物の名前から名付けられたと辞書にありました。テキーラにチョコレート。メキシコって！！すてき～～
そういえばクロービスと私の出会いもメキシコでした！！

テイスティングしたチョコレート

○ペルー産のカカオ88%
すごくカカオの味がして、それでもってなめらかな歯ざわり！
○カカオ84%Dark Chocolate
88%と微妙な差だけど、これもまずまずでも88%のほうが
好みかな～～～
○カカオ84%トウガラシとシナモン
　トウガラシ：血の循環を良くして消化を助ける
　シナモン：血糖値を下げ、悪玉コレステロールの低下作用
これは一押し。スパイシーながらも甘さがほんのり。

○カカオ84%ラベンダー
ラベンダー：精神的ストレスを和らげるリラックス効果
ラベンダーの香りは少し弱いけれど、あとからラベンダーの
香りが漂う感じ

○カカオ84%ゴージベリー
ゴージベリー：21の微量元素と18のアミノ酸を含み
食欲を抑え、安眠をもたらし、長寿、性欲増強の効果
ベリーとチョコレートの相性はばっちりです。

どれも甘さがかなり抑えられているので、
アメリカで売られている！とはとても想像がつきませんが、
実際ミルクチョコレート派の人も、このＲａｗカカオを
使ったチョコレートにはまる人も多いとか！
お値段は28ｇ普通の板チョコはだいたい100ｇから120ｇだから
4分の1ぐらいの大きさ5個で＄１５とチョコレートとしては
お高い？けれど、質を考えると納得ですね！
そしてこれらのカカオは
小さな家族経営のファームからのフェアトレードのものです。
もちろん包装紙もリサイクル！

Baby -Sitter ベビーシッター

先日お友達の家にベビーシッターに行きました。
2歳半のポニーと6か月のニジュー。（男の子）
う～～～二人とも本当に可愛いんです！
9月にあった以来の半年ぶりの再開。
ひ～～子供ってこんなに成長早いの？と
とってもびっくりでした。
We went to our friends' house for baby-sitting.
Ponny(2.5years)and Nijyu(6month) two brothers!
Last time we saw them was 6 month ago.
We are very surprised how fast they've grown!!!



ポニーは前と比べてほんと～～によく話すようになりました。
そして今日は私の両親とご対面です！
と言ってもスカイプで。
今の時代、ビデオ通話ができるので、とっても便利！
そして瞬間をカメラで撮ることができるんですね～。
母がいろんなぬいぐるみを持ってきてポニーに見せると
彼はすぐに’フロッグ’とか’ドッグ’とどんどん言葉が出てくる。
父は一生懸命犬の人形を持ちながら’ワンワン’と言っていたけど
ポニーは首をかしげて’ワンワン’って？？？？という感じでした。
'Ruff'’Ruff’と英語圏の人は言うんですね～～
母も負けずにカエルの人形を持ちながら’ゲロゲロ’と言っていたけど
またまたポニーは首をかしげて’ゲロゲロ’って？？？？
'Ribbi' Ribbi'と英語圏の人はいうんですね～～
とそんなことも気にもせず、まだまだ鳴き声を言い続ける二人。

Pony speaks so much more than before !
They met my Parents!
By skype of course. It is amazing that we can talk and see each other
between Japan and US for free!!
My mom tried to show a lot of stuffed animals and dolls to Ponny.
As soon as he saw the doll he said the name 'a dog' ' a frog'!
My dad kept saying 'WanWan'
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,he had no idea.
My dad was trying to make a dog's noise in Japanese.
My mom kept saying 'Gerogero'
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,she had no idea.
She was trying to make a frog's noise in Japanese.
They think the noises animals make is the same all over the world!



とにかく二人ともとってもかわいい！！
この日も夜はマイナス32度ほど。
帰り道、車があったまるまで、息をすると
鼻の中で空気が凍った？、、、、。
途中で車止まらなきゃいいけど、、、、
雪でセンターラインが見えないくねくね道を2つの丘を越えて
無事家に着きました！
Anyway, they are just CUTE!!!!
It was about -32c.
On the way home,the air was frozen in my nose??!!
I was hoping that our car wouldn't breack down on the way home,,,,
After the driving on the snow packed road, where we couldn't see the
center line, we arrived safely!

New friends 新しいお友達

新しいお友達がやってきました。
パッティーはカリブ海の島からやってきた
陽気な南の島のパワーの持ち主です。
一緒にいるだけでとっても幸せになれます。
彼女にとって冬は初体験。
ふだんより一段と多く薪を焚いてお出迎えしました！
汗かいてました、、、。
A New friend came!!
Patti is　from one of the Caribbean Islands.
She has a lot of Island power!!!!
Just to be with her, makes you feel very happy, that is
the Island power!!
We put lots of wood into the wood stove to make it feel tropical for her!
We were actually swetting hot in snowy wisconsin!!


マティアスはクロービスの幼馴染で、
パティの国でシェフとして働いていた。
つい最近戻ってきたばかり。
今日はシェフマティアスがウィスコンシン名物の
ブラッツを作ってくれました！
ブラッツとは、ソーセージの種類で、
ドイツの移民の多いここウィスコンシンの名物。
その他ウィスコンシンの名物といえば、チーズ、ミルク、
そして、ビール！たくさんのおいしい地ビールを味わうことができる。
何しろブラッツのトラディションは、
ビールでボイル。
今回シェフマティアスはポークとシカ肉を使ったものを
厳選。(ポークが一般的）
鍋にビールとブラッツそしてサワークラウトを入れて
ぐつぐつ煮る。味がよくしみたら今度はクロービスが
ウッドストーブでできた炭火の上であぶりました！
お～～～～い～～～し～～～！！！！
アメリカ人ってケチャップとマスタードたっぷりかけるけど、
ソーセージそのものの味わかるのかしら？
ちなみにあ私はマスタードのみで頂きました！

Mattias who is Clovis' old friend just came back
from the Islands with Patti.
He is a chef, and met patti in the Islands while working as a chef!!
Today he cooked 'BRATS' for us.
Usually it is pork meats but Chef Mattias chose Pork & Venison！
then he boiled them in beer and clovis smoked them over the hot wood stove.
MMMMMMMM Yummy!!!!!

いつものようにホットドッグでフットボール観戦。
この日は、ウィスコンシンでの試合でしたが、
雪が降り続き、フィールドが白く雪で覆われた中の試合。
さすがウィスコンシンは雪に強い。勝利しました！
相手はドームスタジオを持つシアトルでした。
We watched a football game and ate our brats like good americans.
It was snowing in green bay where the foot ball game was. the field become coverd by snow until we couldn't see the green ground anymore!!
Wisconsin's team (the Packers) are very strong in the snow! they play all winter out side. The other theam was Seattle which has a dome for their home feild, so they were not used to playing foot ball in a snow storm! it was an easy win for us.
